Description

A selection of historic Contact Sheets by Magnum photographers are available as high quality, unsigned, contemporary 16×20″ prints. These contact prints offer the opportunity to own a piece of Magnum’s history.

Part of Jonas Bendiksen’s series Satellites, this contact sheet features iconic images of villagers collecting scrap from the wreckage of a crashed spacecraft in the Altai Terriroy, Russia.

Bendiksen’s iconic series is a culmination of a seven-year photographic journey that takes viewers through the countries once held in orbit by the immense gravity of Moscow, the nucleus of the Soviet empire. These images were shot on Kodak 160 Virtual Color Portra film.

Bendiksen began his career at the age of 19 as an intern at Magnum’s London office, before leaving for Russia to pursue his own work as a photojournalist. Throughout the several years he spent there, Bendiksen photographed stories from the fringes of the former Soviet Union. The book Satellites was published in 2006. Bendiksen became a Magnum Photos nominee in 2004, a member in 2008 and president by 2010.

Giclée print, 16×20”, stamped w. Uneditioned.

Reproducing the original without alteration and enlarged to a 16″x20″ paper size, these Magnum Contacts offer a unique insight into the methods by which our photographers produced some of their best known images, by clearly showing the sequence of frames and the marks of the editing process on each sheet.

These prints are embossed ‘Magnum Photos Collection’ on the white border in the bottom right corner and hand stamped with the photographers copyright on the back.
