On 4 January 1957, Yul Brynner is photographed in Paris, after ringing in the New Year. The American actor, who habitually shaved his head three times a week, was nicknamed “the most famous bald man in Hollywood”. Two months after this picture was taken, at the age of 36, he went on to win the Oscar for Best Actor for his role in the musical comedy The King and I, a Broadway musical from 1951.
